Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer, Yamaha, is all set to debut themselves into the Indian scooter market by next year. Yamaha Motors from Germany are the ones expected to bring the scooters in question to India. It is said that they will come up with wide range of scooters by 2012. Yamaha will set up a seperate body assembly line for scooter manufacturing located at Sarjapur in Uttar Pradesh. India Yamaha Motors Pvt. Ltd. is planning to invest Rs. 10 crore to set up body assembly line at this plant.
Yamaha already owns a huge amount of share in the scooter segment in the United States and hand full of European countries, but at present they are studying the Indian market before they add these products into their brochure.
The scooters that Yamaha plans to launch are the ones already available in the foreign markets, such as Yamaha Fino, Yamaha BWs, Yamaha Spark & Yamaha Nouvo.
With companies such as Honda, TVS & Mahindra already in the scooter market, we await to see how big piece of pie will Yamaha get to eat. Yamaha will be entering this battle field equipped with the latest technology in market, which is sure to give a head on competition. It’s always good to have more competition in the market as it keeps companies on their toes and in turn, customers get benefited with products having better technology and carrying a lower price tag.
Currently, Honda India is the leading seller of scooter in India. Let’s wait and watch if Yamaha can replace that spot.
