Piaggio, an Italian brand of motor vehicles, launched the stylish and sporty scooter, Vespa. Though it’s a dream of many scooter lovers to own the Vespa, the price tag ensures that not everyone can buy one. Piaggio recently announced the foray of Moto GUZZI, a brand of bike, in India and now the Italian company is considering adding more variety to Vespa to grab more attention in the Indian market. The Vespa has seen a hike in demand in spite of it being one of the most expensive scooter brands in India, even after the price cut. Piaggio company spokesperson said that the company’s target is to see 90,000 units of Vespa scooters by December 2013.
Honda Activa is the market leader when it comes to scooter segment in India, which costs around Rs. 47,200, which makes Vespa LX 125 costlier as it sells at Rs. 60,000, making it India’s costliest scooter and the company still has no plans to tone down the price.
Earlier, the company was likely to introduce price friendly scooter range to compete with Honda Activa, Yamaha Ray and Suzuki Access, but now it seems that the company has dropped the idea of entering the affordable scooter market and instead they are focusing on the sales of their classy scooters.
We will be seeing new age automatic fuel injected scooter from Piaggio next year. That should not disappoint people who are planning to buy the vehicle this year as the new variant of the Vespa LX125 comes with new design, sporty look and 150cc power engine. The scooter also comes with front disc brake. You can buy the scooter in different colors as the new version comes with different color scheme. Piaggio designers have worked really hard to make the new variant look better than the one existing. With scooter makers like Honda, Hero MotoCorp and TVS ruling the market, the company has to come up with something new to tame the buyers, and most importantly, it has to price it in sync with competitor’s products.
Now let’s play the wait and watch game to see if Piaggio can grab the pie off Honda.
