Official: Yamaha Motor India to enter scooter segment

When it comes to sales, scooters are no less than motorcycles in India. Honda scooter, Dio and Activa are the ones dominating in India. The ever increasing demand for scooters in the Indian two-wheeler market has provoked various other manufacturers to enter the scooter segment. One such manufacturer is Yamaha Motor India(YMI), which is all set to foray its scooter. This is not a speculation, but indeed the news came from an official mouth. Here’s what YMI CEO and MD, Mr. Hiroyuki Suzuki had to say:

“We are planning to launch scooters next year. We will share the details at an appropriate time. We definitely see our foray into the segment as something that will strengthen our foothold in the two-wheeler segment. We are hopeful our entry will provide a momentum to rev up sales and increase our market share.”

Seems like the company has already started working on its scooter. But, there is no news about specific model that they’re going to debut here, but we’re sure the model that will be brought here is already available in foreign markets. The models that may make it here include Yamaha Fino, Yamaha BWs, Yamaha Spark & Yamaha Nouvo. The company also has plans to set up a new plant and they are not sure about the location for the same.
