Mumbai to get a F1 track?
With India showing more interest towards motorsports, the country is all set to build yet another international quality race track. Maharastra government is trying to replicate the success seen in Delhi. The Maharastra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is planning to construct a brand new circuit at the country’s business capital, Mumbai. Previously, Maharastra government was given a chance to build a new track in order to host the F1 track, but they scrapped the plans owing to divert funds towards something more ‘productive’.
MSRDC is seen to be sterner regarding the project and they’ve decided three probable locations, that’s Panvel, Malad or Thane, out of which one will be finalized.
To build a quality track, MSRDC requires 400-500 acres of land. Initially, there were three bidders, however, one was disqualified. At present, two members have been shortlisted, where in which one will be selected and will be working towards building an all new Formula One track in Mumbai. Also keeping in mind that same track can host motorcycle races like MotoGP too; India is bound to host a lot more races in the future.
Decision on location will be finalized by the end of July. Further, a theme park may also be a part of this project. On the whole, a smart move by the government.
