Hero MotoCorp’s dirt-bike decoded!

We had posted a spy picture of Hero MotoCorp’s new on-off road bike which would be launched by the company under its new brand identity. What we knew about the bike was that, it would be brought as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit, which means the bike is already available in other parts of the world. To cut long story short, the bike is indeed based on Honda’s NXR 150 Bros which is currently being sold in the Brazilian market.

The bike isn’t a complete off-road bike, which is of course not street legal. It is more of a dual-purpose bike, and has greater capability of surviving the worst road. Unlike a motocross bike, this bike comes equipped with 4-stroke FI engine, headlamps, tail-lamps and rearview mirrors. Indian version will be laden with a saree guard too. NXR 150 is powered by a 149.2cc engine which is derived from Honda’s engine which also powers bikes like Unicorn, CBZ Extreme & Hunk in India. It will feature under-seat exhaust system for enhanced ground clearance. The bike may not come with 180cc engine as previously rumored.

From what we’ve seen so far, motorcycles from all categories are ultimately reduced as a commuter. It remains to be seen if anyone will pay more than a lac for a motorcycle which has got spoked-wheels & less plastic to show-off.
