2012 Yamaha YZF R1 gets Traction Control

We had posted few leaked pictures of 2012 Yamaha YZF R1 yesterday. The bike was spied few hours prior to its official launch. The new version of Yamaha’s flagship model R1 has been launched officially.

Almost all the things reported yesterday are true except one thing viz., the change in nose part of the bike. We are still confused if the nose part of the bike has undergone any changes at all. The bike comes with an all new graphics which indeed gives a fresh look when compared to the earlier version.
There is one hot upgrade made for this bike i.e., the inclusion of ‘Traction Control’.

Traction Control has been present in four wheelers for quite a long time, but when it comes to two wheels; it’s still in its infancy. It’s good that Yamaha has decided to add this feature which makes this model standout of the crowd. A six stage traction control has been incorporated into this mobike. The bike will be powered by the same old trustworthy 998cc, Liquid Cooled 4-stroke DOHC engine.

We would like to scribble the changes below:
• Remapped ECU
• Face-lifted Headlamp and the lower fairing part
• New LED front lights
• Heat shields for exhaust and a face-lifted end caps
• Top Yoke, which is MotoGP inspired

Overall, the main noteworthy addition is the six stage traction control. So, what’s this ‘traction control’ after all? Traction control basically works by using front and rear wheel speed sensors which detect the rear wheel spinning and then adjusts the fuel injection, throttle opening and ignition timing to reduce power. In layman terms, ‘Traction control’ avoids tire slip in an event of acceleration on slippery surfaces.
